Cement block is up

At this point of construction you can see an idea of the shape of the new addition. They put the water proofing material up and hooked up the plumbing. Tomorrow the framers are to deliver the wood and begin framing next week. Here are some photos of the project up until now.

More on Flooring

Decisions, decisions....... so many options which makes a decision so hard. Many factors also play into the final decision. Cost, practicality, agreeing on the same things all play a role in the final selections. I do think I have it narrowed down but of course that could all change.
The first hard decision was  deciding between carpet or hardwood in the master bedroom. We picked hard wood. After looking around the rooms I have that are carpeted my eye goes right to the stains on the carpeting.

I like this hardwood because it has both brown and gray shades and I love the hand scraped look.

The master bath is really the one area that was stressing me out. I love marble but it is both costly and has maintenance issues so I have been looking at porcelain tile that looks like marble but is not as expensive and requires less maintenance than marble. I really want a polished finish and I'm having trouble finding that in floor tile. I did find these below and I do like them.

The laundry room was an easy decision because I knew just what I wanted and found it at Home Depot. I want to have it set in a herringbone pattern. .
I will post the final decision once I get all the pricing and we agree on each room.

I'm Floored

Things are moving along on the project. The footer is being poured and the cement block will be set today or tomorrow. My topic today is flooring.... or the "F" word as it has been a bit overwhelming to narrow down my choices as there are so many options to choose from. I have decided on which materials I want in each room. The "Atrium room" will feature a stone floor. It looks a lot like travertine or limestone. It is imported from Italy.
I like it as it will look nice with the existing exposed brick wall that will be in that room.

Tomorrow I will discuss the other rooms and the decision on flooring I chose.

Let the Digging Begin

Today was the first day of construction. The workers showed up at 7:30 AM. Today they brought in all the big bad machines and trucks. Our Dog Lexi was a bit anxious as she didn't understand what was happening. I have photos to get an idea of the project. I also have photos of our house as it has looked for the past 27 years. It will never look this way again.

New Addition

Wow, it has been a very long time since I blogged. We are getting a new addition! Not as in a grandchild or pet, but to our house. Most people at our age are downsizing.....not us!  In a way we are downsizing as in the word DOWN as we are adding a master bedroom down to the first floor. The reason for this decision is because I have witnessed with many as elderly folks  age the stairs become a problem and they end up moving. My parents, in laws, and friends parents have all gone through this. I decided that I like exactly where I live and never want to move. We are fortunate enough to also own a beautiful second home on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Many wonder why we don't just move there full time. There are many reasons why we won't do that. For one, it is just that.... a second home. One that we enjoy immensely and look forward going to and relaxing with family and friends we have there. Second, I love Pennsylvania and the town we live in. We enjoy the 4 seasons here but the winters are not my favourite....thus I go to Hilton Head to escape the cold. We have built a life here and raised our 3 children along with multiple dogs in this house. However, time has come to make some changes so we can keep enjoying our home. Besides, I love decorating projects and this will satisfy that need. So we begin on a beautiful fall day. The contractor was here bright and early with an electrician to get things going. A few details need to happen before the big stuff gets started. First we need to move the existing septic tank. 💩  The new addition will be where the current one is placed now. Hopefully this part of the construction goes smoothly so we can get to the good part. I will be posting photos as we go along.
